Kentucky College of Optometry faculty present at state meeting

PIKEVILLE – University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry faculty members Eilene E. Kinzer, O.D., M.Ed., VFL, FAAO, and Gregory S. Moore, O.D., recently presented a lecture to the Kentucky Optometric Association (KOA). Kinzer and Moore are senior clinical instructors at the Kentucky College of Optometry.

Held in Lexington, the KOA Spring Conference provides up to 20 hours of optometric continuing education to optometrists throughout the state. Kinzer and Moore presented “My Eye Hurts … I Need Percocet,” a two-hour pain management course approved by the national Council of Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE). COPE is a regulatory board that approves continuing education for optometric licensing boards.

The course described ocular pain management protocols and treatment plans for patients, as well as drug diversion training. This course also satisfies the pain management and therapeutic management education annual requirements for Kentucky optometrists.
