PRESTONSBURG – Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry will continue its summer season on Saturday, July 2 with the appearance of Kelsie May, a local rising star.
A Louisa native, May made noise in 2015 on NBC’s The Voice when three judges turned their chairs around for her while she was singing “You’re Looking at Country,” by music legend and Johnson County native Loretta Lynn. May ultimately chose a position on Team Blake, even after Christina Aguilera did her best sales job.
The Lawrence Countian has now performed alongside artists such as Marty Stuart, Jo Dee Messina, Rae Lynn, and fellow Kentuckians Montgomery Gentry. She also has toured with X Factor Season 2 winner Tate Stevens. Since her eye opening run on The Voice, May has joined forces with industry veteran Bob Kinkead, of the Kinkead Entertainment Agency. May has also performed on the historic Wheeling Jamboree.
Mountain Arts Center Executive Director and Opry emcee Clayton Case said the whole organization is thrilled to have her step on stage.
“As a huge fan of The Voice I’m elated to have season 8 contestant Kelsie May performing with the Kentucky Opry this weekend,” Case said. “Not only is she an excellent rising country artist, she’s also from right here in Eastern Kentucky.”
The upcoming weekend show is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Opry will have special guests for select shows throughout the summer. The guests will include past stars from the organization, as well as local favorite vocalists and musicians.
