PRESTONSBURG – The Mountain Art Center (MAC) will host the finale of the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Road to Fame Competition at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The Country Music Highway – which spans from Ashland to Jenkins – is home to numerous country music legends. Billy Ray Cyrus, Wynonna and Naomi Judd, Tom T. Hall, Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, Hylo Brown, Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Dwight Yoakam, Patty Loveless, Gary Stewart, and current country music artist of year Chris Stapleton are all Country Music Highway alumni. Eastern Kentucky is known for producing numerous talented country music artists.
The U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Road to Fame Competition conducted auditions in Ashland, Prestonsburg, Pikeville, Louisa, Hazard, and Paintsville. Previous winners of the competition are Logan Hall (2012), Holly Thompson (2013), Jason Goble (2014) and Whitley Tate (2015).
A total of 13 individuals – Jodi Mykayla Perkins, Gracie Thompson, Miranda Finney, Hassell Bryant, Laken Compton, Mandy Conn, Tim Elkins, Jondra Gibson, Maelyn Huff, Shawn Leslie, Zach McGlone, Cody Morgan and Wakita Billups – have been competing to win cash prizes, recording studio time, and performance opportunities as part of this year’s U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Road to Fame Competition.
