PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Library held its second Anime Micro Con on Saturday. The event was organized by Gladys Nicholas of Prestonsburg. Nicolas is an Anime fan and enjoys meeting others who share her love for the Japanese art form.

The event began with a presentation geared toward parents.

“I personally love Anime,” Nicolas said. “The reason I organized this event was to help parents understand the concept of Anime and hopefully give it a chance, maybe even start watching it with their son or daughter. This could be an opportunity for parents to bond with their son or daughter.”

Anime is a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children. The word is the abbreviated pronunciation of animation. The style is often characterized by colorful graphics and vibrant characters.

In addition to the presentation on Anime, Anime comics and books were pulled from the shelf and displayed to remain easily accessible for check out. Individuals played Anime-themed games and talked to other Anime enthusiasts.

The library also ran a fan art contest where submissions were Anime themed. Alyssa Martin was the winner of the contest. She submitted a collage of work to take home the top prize of an art supply bundle.

The Floyd County Library offers several free activities each week.
