Bridge renamed to honor Lucy Kinzer

WATERGAP – Friends, family and local officials gathered July 21 as Department of Highway officials renamed the Watergap Bridge that crosses over U.S. 23 the Lucy Kinzer Memorial Bridge.

Married to Willard Kinzer for 70 years, friends and family describe Lucy Kinzer as a loving and kind woman who enjoyed nothing better than being with friends and family.

The Kinzers own Kinzer Drilling located on Route 80 at Allen. The couple were known for their generosity to local schools, charities and non-profit organizations, including and the University of Pikeville and Wesley Christian School, where Mr. Kinzer is on the Board of Directors.

Lucy Kinzer passed away in 2015. She was 86. The bridge memorial will serve as a reminder and a tribute to a lady who loved Floyd County and its citizens.
