Bevin announces refunds of $179,900 to coal counties

FRANKFORT – Gov. Matt Bevin announced Friday that fiscal courts in 33 counties will receive refunds totaling $179,900 from mining permit and acreage fees.

The Department for Natural Resources collects mining permit and acreage fees and returns a portion of the fees to coal-producing counties for projects that the fiscal courts deem beneficial to their communities.

“Kentucky is a coal state,” said Gov. Bevin. “This administration is committed to partnering with and supporting our coal communities and miners. These funds will directly benefit our coal-producing counties. We appreciate these counties and their hard-working miners for their efforts and look forward to continuing our work together as we fight to protect and strengthen the Commonwealth’s coal industry.”

Refunds range from $62.50 to $39,947.92. The following list includes the counties and refund amounts: Bell County Fiscal Court, $9,950; Boyd County Fiscal Court, $775; Breathitt County Fiscal Court $2,031.67; Clay County Fiscal Court, $2,670.83; Daviess County Fiscal Court, $4,850; Elliott County Fiscal Court, $825; Floyd County Fiscal Court, $10,025.42; Harlan County Fiscal Court, $13,516.67; Henderson County Fiscal Court $2,187.50; Hopkins County Fiscal Court, $3,362.50; Jackson County Fiscal Court, $125; Johnson County Fiscal Court, $1,920; Knott County Fiscal Court, $11,407.92; Knox County Fiscal Court, $10,112.50; Laurel County Fiscal Court, $375; Lawrence County Fiscal Court, $1,275; Leslie County Fiscal Court, $4,445.83; Letcher County Fiscal Court, $8,081.25; Magoffin County Fiscal Court, $2,225; Martin County Fiscal Court, $1,677.50; McCreary County Fiscal Court, $250; McLean County Fiscal Court, $337.50; Morgan County Fiscal Court, $125; Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court, $6,400; Ohio County Fiscal Court, $4,037.50; Owsley County Fiscal Court, $354.17; Perry County Fiscal Court, $18,054.17; Pike County Fiscal Court, $39,947.92; Pulaski County Fiscal Court, $62.50; Rockcastle County Fiscal Court, $62.50; Union County Fiscal Court, $2,937.50; Webster County Fiscal Court, $6,412.50; Whitley County Fiscal Court, $9,079.17.
