Ballott for upcoming election features 47 candidates

PRESTONSBURG – A total of 47 individuals wishing to run for office have filed the appropriate paperwork with the Floyd County Clerk’s Office.

Allen City Commission has had its share of controversy over the past year. Allen City Mayor Sharon Woods worked diligently with the City Commission to get the city’s finances back in order. The following individuals have filed their intent to run for Allen City Commission: Eilene Kinzer, Joshua Kinzer, Elmer “Fudd” Parsons, Clyde Woods, Kathy Bentley McCoy and Mary Porter Hopkins.

Martin City Council is another group that has had controversy over the past few years. The following individuals have filed to run for Martin City Council: James “Jim” Reynolds, April Gayheart, Gary Akers, Harold Case, Eulene Ratliff and Charles Justice. In addition to City Council, the position of Martin Mayor is up for grabs. Sam Howell is running for re-election against Edgel “Bide” Click.

The following individuals have filed to run for Prestonsburg City Council: Timothy Cooley, David Gearheart, Don Willis, Roy Roberts, Michael Lafferty, Harry Adams, Cliff Latta III, Brittany Branham, Crystina Brown and B.D. Nunnery.

The City of Wayland has four contenders hoping to become a member of the Wayland City Commission: Charles Bentley, Curtis Lee, Craig Crase and Susie Mills.

Wheelwright may be small in size, but what it lacks in size is made up in city pride and spirit. Wheelwright has the largest group of candidates for the upcoming election. The following individuals have filed to run for Wheelwright City Commission: Sam Little Jr., Vernon Smallwood, Dana McCown, Joshua Akers, Bobby Akers, Andy Akers, David “DaBo” Boyd and Robert Johnson.

Four individuals have filed to run for Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor: Lenville Martin, Ernie Tackett, Thomas Hardwick and James “Jim” Carter II.

The Floyd County School Board is an office that carries much responsibility for those elected. The School Board is broken down into districts. A breakdown of the districts and candidates for the upcoming election follows. District Five: Sherry Robinson and Johnny Peters; District Three: William Newsome Jr. and Jeff Stumbo; District Four: Rhonda Meade, Don “Booty” Hall and Loretta Tackett.
