PAINTSVILLE – Christian Appalachian Project received around $58,600 in incentives from Kentucky Power for adopting multiple energy-saving projects on Friday.
The nonprofit earned the financial incentives through Kentucky Power’s Commercial Incentive program after completing four energy efficiency projects in 2016, including high efficiency lighting and variable speed drives. About $32,500 of the incentives were for upgrades to the heating and lighting systems at the former Island Creek coal maintenance facility, which now will be used as the agency’s headquarters. Kentucky Power presented Christian Appalachian Project with a check at its August board meeting.
“The incentives provided by the Kentucky Power Commercial Incentive Program have given us additional funds to support our mission of building hope, transforming lives and sharing Christ’s love through service in Appalachia,” said Danny Purcell, Christian Appalachian Project’s Paintsville renovation project manager.
For more than 50 years, Christian Appalachian Project has worked in eastern Kentucky to make a difference in the lives of children and their families, individuals with disabilities and seniors living in poverty. The nonprofit touches the lives of more than one million people each year.
“Providing programs that encourage investment in energy efficiency projects is one way we can help our customers save money and energy,” said E.J. Clayton, Kentucky Power’s energy efficiency and consumer programs manager. “For nonprofits like Christian Appalachian Project, less money spent on electricity can provide opportunities for investment in programs and services benefitting the community.”
The Kentucky Power Commercial Incentive Program has assisted commercial customers in making the switch to energy efficient technologies by offering information and recommendations, as well as cash incentives for installing money-saving energy efficiency upgrades. Since 2012, about 747 commercial customers have participated in the Commercial Incentive Program.
