Floyd Chamber discusses economic development


PRESTONSBURG – The Floyd County Chamber of Commerce held a networking luncheon meeting Tuesday at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park to discuss new strageties for economic development.

The guest speaker was Chuck Sexton, CEO of One East Kentucky.

One East Kentucky is a non-profit economic development organization covering nine counties in Eastern Kentucky. Sexton described the mission of OEK and how the organization was formed through the efforts of five local chambers of commerce and area business leaders. He stated that it is the vision of these business leaders that will move the region forward in diversifying our local economy by attracting new jobs and investment.

Sexton highlighted many of the plans OEK will implement to attract business and industry to our region. He described how the area has many of the ingredients for success and that the immediate focus will be getting the region ready to recruit new companies. He stated that OEK will work aggressively to build a regional marketing effort, develop a website and implement a proven strategy for focused business recruitment.
