Beverly McGuire, of Langley, claimed his $50,000 check from Kentucky Lottery on Tuesday.

LOUISVILLE – The Powerball jackpot for the August 13, 2016 drawing stood at an estimated $82 million. While there wasn’t a jackpot winner for that drawing, Beverly McGuire, of Langley, matched four of the first five numbers and the Powerball number to win $50,000. This is the games third prize.

McGuire buys his lottery tickets once a week, usually on payday. It’s on that day that he’ll also check the tickets he’d purchased the previous week. It was Friday, Aug. 19 when he stopped off at Food City #458 in Pikeville to do just that. McGuire scanned his Powerball ticket on the self-ticket checker when he read $50 on the machine. Since the information remained for just a few seconds he scanned it a second time just to double check the amount. Beverly then realized there were a few more zeroes behind the $50.

“The clerk called over to me asking if I was okay, I guess from the expression on my face.” I said, “This can’t be right, it says I won $50,000,” McGuire said.

The clerk went on to tell him that they’d sold a $50,000 ticket recently and to let him check it. Next, the clerk told McGuire that they’d been waiting on him and then gave Beverly a high-five.

McGuire is already being referred to as “the Money Man” by some of his coworkers from R/S Godwin Truck Body Company. As of right now, McGuire plans to buy a new truck with his winnings.
