PRESTONSBURG – Rain may be dominating the weather forecasts, but that has not discouraged the sunny attitude of the staff and entertainers at Jenny Wiley Theatre. Jenny Wiley Theatre (JWT) offers a reasonable rain policy and rain insurance for its outdoor amphitheatre shows at the location in Prestonsburg, as well as indoor productions at its location in Pikeville. With these multiple entertainment options, family fun is always possible at JWT, whatever the weather.

Martin Childers, Executive Director at Jenny Wiley Theatre wants the public to know about the theatre’s affordable rain insurance, available for all outdoor shows. “The weather this summer season has been extraordinary to say the least. The rain started a few weeks ago and just hasn’t stopped. As you can imagine, rain or even threat of rain wreaks havoc on the theatre’s bottom line and weather is the one thing where we exercise no control,” Childers admits, but quickly adds, “But there is still reason to take the risk. The shows are a great family treat and we offer rain insurance ($1 per ticket), which allows patrons to have a rain check up to three years for any professional production at any JWT location. There are only a few weeks left so you should get your tickets now if you wish to see Shrek The Musical and Little Shop of Horrors.”

Shrek The Musical and Little Shop of Horrors are the two musical comedies now showing at the outdoor amphitheatre at Jenny Wiley Theatre in Prestonsburg. Shrek The Musical runs through August 8. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek is a TONY Award-winning fairy tale adventure. This show has laughs for the whole family and brings to life all your favorite characters, including the wisecracking donkey, the feisty princess, and of course, the grumpy but lovable green ogre Shrek. Little Shop of Horrors runs through August 1. In this comedy, floral assistant Seymour becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant that soon grows beyond his wildest expectations. Little Shop of Horrors is a hilarious musical to savor for anyone who loves oldies-style tunes and tongue-in-cheek humor.

For those patrons who choose not to purchase rain insurance with their tickets, the theatre still has a reasonable rain policy for the outdoor shows. JWT works closely with local weather stations to monitor all weather activity in the area to ensure the safety of patrons. In the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen events the performance may be held up to 20 minutes before determining if the show will continue. Performances cancelled prior to intermission are eligible for rain checks, which are issued at the time of the cancellation. Rain checks are valid for three years. Performances cancelled after intermissions are not eligible for rain checks (unless Rain Insurance is purchased at $1 per ticket before show time) and a summation of the show will be provided. Light rain is generally not cause for cancellation.

In addition to outdoor options, audiences are able to enjoy indoors shows at the Jenny Wiley Mainstage location in downtown Pikeville. “Luckily we have been able to still present our Footlights Theatre Camp productions in the Pikeville location which is helping to sustain us during this crazy weather,” explains JWT Executive Director Martin Childers. The Footlights Theatre Camps are two-week programs where local children and youth get theatre training from professionals, including a Broadway actor, and then present shows for the public. Upcoming Footlights Theatre Camp productions include Disney’s Aladdin Jr., which runs July 23-25, and Legally Blonde Jr., which runs August 6-8 in Pikeville.

Rain or shine, indoors or out, Jenny Wiley Theatre has the right entertainment option for you. Tickets are now available for the indoor Footlights Theatre Camp productions of Aladdin Jr. and Legally Blonde Jr. at Jenny Wiley Theatre in Pikeville. Tickets are also available for the outdoor professional productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Shrek: The Musical at Jenny Wiley Theatre in Prestonsburg.
