PRESTONSBURG – Destination Community Church (DCC) visited Dixie Apartments for a fun-filled event on Saturday. Members of the church’s outreach program brought music, singing, face painting, free haircuts, and food to the residents of Dixie Apartments.

DCC member Brian Conn leads the outreach group, which includes several members of the church who want to go out into the community and share the word of God with others. Church members knocked on doors and visited with many residents

“We are having a great time,” said resident Crystal Dixon. “We don’t have many activities like this, so it is really special for them to come out and feed everyone and entertain while sharing the word of God.”

While other church members visited residents and entertained the crowd, Carlie Reed, a junior at the Piarist School, treated the children to face painting.

“The children have seemed to enjoy themselves and many don’t get to do special treats and go out,” said Betty Hackworth. “We are really blessed to have Destination Community Church come and visit with residents. We have many shut-in residents that aren’t mobile and can’t leave their home regular. After the singing is over we are taking them a plate of food compliments of Destination Church. The people that came with Destination Church are such nice people.”

In addition to the fun entertaining music, food and face painting, Nisa Newsome was on hand to give free haircuts to anyone needing a trim.

At the end of the event, Conn conducted a drawing for five Walmart gift cards and the grand prize, which was an Amazon Fire.
