Teaberry man faces drug charges in Johnson

SITKA – A Floyd County man is now facing charges in Johnson County after police said he came upon a road check near Sitka.

Police said Terry J. Hamilton, 30, of Teaberry, drove up to the safety check point along Route 201 and then turned “to avoid the check point and struck a ditch line.”

Deputy Sheriff Byron Fairchild investigated the vehicle and found Hamilton’s plate’s had been cancelled for failure to maintain insurance. Fairchild gave Hamilton the standard series of sobriety tests and determined Hamilton to be under the influence of drugs.

Another discovery, police said, were hypodermic needles along with empty Buprenorphine packages inside the vehicle.

Hamilton was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence on a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, no registration plates, no registration receipt, failure to produce an insurance card, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, and registration and title requirements for motor vehicle on highway.

Hamilton is currently being held at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
