ALLEN – The leaves are changing and the chilly weather of fall has arrived. The Big Sandy Area Community Action Program (BSACAP) is offering pre-registration for the subsidy portion of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Pre-registration will begin on Monday, October 17 and continue through October 31.
Not everyone is eligible to pre-register for assistance. Pre-registration is limited to those individuals whom are 60 years of age and older, receive a fixed income or have proof of a disability.
BSACAP Executive Director Michael Howell hopes the pre-registration will help with those individuals who are not available to stand in long lines.
Although pre-registration is in October, no application will be approved until November 1.
Individuals wishing to apply for assistance need to bring the following to apply:
Most recent heating bill or proof that heating expenses are included in rent (for example: lease agreement or rent contract).
Proof of physical address- bring metered utility bill.
Proof of household income for prior month.
Birthdates for all household members.
Social security card or official documentation with social security numbers for each member of the household.
Floyd County residents need to apply for assistance at 60 Court Street in Allen. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
