PRESTONSBURG – Elders at Prestonsburg Health Care Center have been seen walking the streets of downtown Prestonsburg this summer and fall in an effort to get some exercise as well as build relationships. A few groups of people have noticed the residents and decided to join in on the fun. The Prestonsburg Senior Citizens Center and the Floyd County Health Department have helped out in a big way. Every morning, members of the Senior Citizens Center have joined the elders and stakeholders from Prestonsburg Health Care Center for their morning walk.
“The walks are a great way to start the morning,” said Chaplain Stephen Clark. “However, the relationship aspect means so much more.”
As volunteers and elders round the corner sidewalk back to Prestonsburg Health Care Center they are met by the director of senior citizens, who hands out some cool, refreshing bottles of water courtesy of the Floyd County Health Department.
“We are so grateful for the volunteers from the health department and senior citizens center; they are such a blessing to us and to our elders,” said Prestonsburg Health Care Center Administrator Lynn Watts.
