GOODY – Dr. Devin Stephenson, president of Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC), visited Belfry High School on Wednesday, October 5.
Mark Gannon, principal of Belfry High School, gave Dr. Stephenson, Representative Chris Harris and Joshua Ball, director of strategic communications, a tour of the Belfry campus.
“The facilities at Belfry are second to none,” said Dr. Stephenson. “You can truly tell that Belfry High School is the focal point of the communities it serves.”
Gannon, Dr. Stephenson and Harris discussed ways the high school and college can better collaborate to bring opportunities to Belfry High School students and adult learners in the community.
“I want to commend Mr. [Mark] Gannon and his teachers, staff and administration on the work they are doing,” said Dr. Stephenson. “Transformation is occurring around every corner.”
Some highlights of Dr. Stephenson’s visit included visiting Mallory Williamson’s choir class. Dr. Stephenson, a classically-trained pianist, accompanied the choir and was asked to do the same at an upcoming concert. He later visited Dr. Haridas Chandran, a physical science teacher at Belfry High School. Dr. Chandran showed off a maker’s space that included three 3D printers.
“All of our high schools are on the frontlines of transformation, and they are doing tremendous work in getting students college and career ready,” said Dr. Stephenson.
