PRESTONSBURG – In the early morning hours Tuesday, those driving along Route 114 just past the West Prestonsburg Bridge nearing the entrance to Archer Park may have noticed a black truck seemingly ditched and abandoned.
If so, the Prestonsburg Police Department has asked that you notify their offices, because you may can help in determining how 30-year-old Arturo Cruz ended up dead in that truck at just after 6 a.m.
Police issued a press release Tuesday afternoon saying they were notified of a truck ditched along Route 114. When officers and members of the fire department arrived, they discovered Cruz, a resident of Dwale and former restaurant worker, slumped into the passenger floor board of his 2005 Chevy pickup truck.
The truck had been traveling in the westbound lane, police said, and apparently went into the ditch, an approximately eight to ten feet drop from the main road. The report said Cruz was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Floyd County Corner Greg Nelson pronounced Cruz dead at the scene, and an investigation is ongoing. Those assisting at the scene in addition to the city police and fire departments included the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department, Trans-Star Ambulance Service, and the Kentucky State Police.
City police are asking anyone who might have seen the truck during the early morning hours to call them at (606) 886-1010.
