MAYTOWN – The Maytown home of Mary Joan Wallen burned Tuesday afternoon, leaving the home a total loss.
Wallen said she learned of the fire from a family member who called her to tell her the house, located long Wilson Creek in Maytown, was engulfed in flames.
Wallen said this was one of the blessings to come from the tragedy, that she and her family were not home at the time of the fire. She stated she and her family had lived at the location for 40 years.
The fire saw three departments respond including the Maytown, Garrett, and Martin fire departments. Each of the departments worked for hours to contain the flames. No other structures were affected by the fire.
The investigation into the what caused the fire is ongoing but officials have given no cause as of yet.
