PRATER CREEK – Highway District 12’s Allen maintenance crew began work to replace three cross drains yesterday with the first along Prater Creek. The two other drains will be replaced along Stephen’s Branch and Lake Road on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
Motorists should plan to take alternate routes during this time, said Sara George, information officer for District 12, as replacing a cross drain involves cutting a trench in the asphalt across both lanes of the roadway. The old drain is removed, the new one installed, and the pavement replaced. The work takes a full day to complete.
The work on Wednesday at Stephens Branch will begin at mile marker three, George said. District 12 Superintendent Brady Conn said the road will not be completely closed but people should expect long delays if they use this route. Again, the work is expected to take until about 4:30 p.m. at begin at about 8 a.m.
The following day, Thursday, Aug. 6, Lake Road will be closed to all traffic between milepoints four and five. This location rests between the swimming pool and the warden’s office building. Work will also start at 8 a.m. and go until about 4:30 p.m. at this location.
