McDowell woman arrested for pointing handgun at church

McDOWELL – Sherry Ann Wright of Doty Creek was arrested by Deputy Darrell Bradley of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday (Feb. 15). Wright was accused and charged with retaliating against a participant in a legal process.

The complaint was made by the affiant, Lorene Halbert, who stated that on February 13, Wright came to Little Rosa Church in McDowell where she aimed a handgun at the victim and threatened she would be back. Wright and the family of Halbert are parties in a legal proceeding.

Wright appeared before Judge Eric Hall on Friday. She was released on a $5,000 surety bond and instructed not to violate any local, state or federal laws, have no contact with the alleged victim or complaining witness, make all scheduled court appearance and maintain a 1000 feet restriction between herself and the victim.

Wright is scheduled to appear back in Floyd County District Court on March 1 at 9:30 a.m.
