Local firefighters battle to win chili cookoff

The Garrett Volunteer Fire Department won the hottest chili award in Prestonsburg Fire Department’s chili cookoff.


Firefighters from around Floyd County came together in Prestonsburg on Saturday for Prestonsburg Fire Department’s first chili cookoff.


Brian Sexton, with the Floyd County Rescue Squad, took home the title of Best Overall Chili Champion.


PRESTONSBURG – Prestonsburg Fire Department held its first chili cookoff on Saturday. Individuals from around Floyd County competed in the Prestonsburg Fire Department-hosted chili cookoff.

Officials with the Prestonsburg Fire Department said they wanted to do something to bring local fire departments together and tighten relationships. Members from Garrett Volunteer Fire Department, Floyd County Rescue Squad and Prestonsburg Fire Department competed in the competition.

Brian Sexton, from the Floyd County Rescue Squad, took home the title of Best Overall Chili.

Garrett Volunteer Fire Department turned up the heat during Saturday’s competition and took home the title of Hottest Chili.

The Prestonsburg Fire Department plans to continue the chili cook-off event each year.
