Appalachian Roots to host Movie Night March 9 at BSCTC’s Prestonsburg campus

Staff Report

PRESTONSBURG – Appalachian Roots will host a special Movie Night, featuring the documentary “Dive” by Jeremey Seifert, at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 9 in the Gearheart Auditorium on the Prestonsburg campus of Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

The film is inspired by the curiosity about the country’s habit of sending food to landfills. In the film, Seifert and friends dumpster dive in the back alleys and receptacles of supermarkets in Los Angeles. Their work results in thousands of dollars of good, edible food. The documentary is equal parts entertainment, guerilla journalism and call to action.

Appalachian Roots is a coalition of eastern Kentuckians promoting native and small-scale agriculture as a basis for improved health, wellness and economic development through education and outreach.
