PRESTONSBURG – Highlands Regional Medical Center has received Chest Pain Center Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC), an international not-for-profit organization that focuses on transforming cardiovascular care by assisting facilities in their effort to create communities of excellence that bring together quality, cost and patient satisfaction. As the only cross-specialty organization, SCPC provides the support needed for individual hospitals and hospital systems to effectively bridge existing gaps in treatment by providing the tools, education and support necessary to successfully navigate the changing face of healthcare.
To become an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Highlands Regional Medical Center engaged in rigorous reevaluation and refinement of its cardiac care processes in order to integrate the healthcare industry’s successful practices and newest paradigms into its cardiac care processes. Protocol-based medicine, developed by leading experts in cardiac care, to reduce the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment are part of Highlands’ overall cardiac care service. The health system encompasses the continuum of care for the ACS patient and includes such focal points as emergency services, cath lab, Highlands’ quality assurance plan, and community outreach program.
As an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Highlands ensures that patients who arrive at the hospital complaining of chest pain or other symptoms of a heart attack receive the treatment necessary during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved. By becoming an Accredited Chest Pain Center, Highlands has enhanced the quality of care for the ACS patient and has demonstrated its commitment to higher standards.
“Heart disease is a leading cause of poor health and even death in Eastern Kentucky. But it’s often preventable, especially when signs are recognized early and treated. At Highlands, we are striving to educate, prevent and provide the necessary treatments for our patients that have chest pain. As a Chest Pain Accredited Center, all of our hard work and dedication to providing excellent care is now recognized by the Society of Chest Pain Centers, and I am proud to be a part of a place that makes the difference in patients lives every day,” states Teresa Green, Highlands Regional Medical Center Chest Pain Coordinator.
