PRESTONSBURG — The city of Prestonsburg is gearing up to host two of the holiday season’s biggest events next week, with the arrival of the annual Christmas in the Park celebration and Christmas parade.
The city is already in a festive spirit, with downtown and Archer Park decorated with thousands of lights.
This year’s light display at the park includes a new feature. In recent years, a food booth has been open in the park throughout the holiday season, giving the light display a taste of carnival season. This year, they’re bringing along a piece of the carnival, too.
A handful of carnival rides have been set up in the park, giving youngsters a chance view the lights from the ferris wheel or merry-go-round or after experiencing the thrills of the House of Horrors. On Friday and Saturday evenings, there will also be train rides through the park.
The Prestonsburg Woman’s Club, the city of Prestonsburg, and Archer Park will welcome families to Christmas in the Park on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Archer Park Skating Rink. The event will include fun and games for all ages, and each child under 12 will get to visit Santa Claus and receive a gift.
On Friday, Dec. 13, beginning at 7 p.m., the annual Christmas parade will again flow through the streets of downtown, but the fun will get started earlier.
Before the parade, beginning at 6 p.m., Santa Claus will walk through downtown, visiting local shops. At 7 p.m., beginning at Music Street, the parade will get underway, making its way along North Lake Drive, back to downtown, where more fun and festivities will await.
