PIKEVILLE — A Prestonsburg man was killed following a freak accident in Pike County.


Lawrence “Lonnie” Fleenor Jr., 55, was driving west on U.S. 460, at Ferrell’s Creek, Tuesday afternoon, when the 2010 Jeep Wrangler he was driving collided with a boulder that had rolled into traffic, following a rockslide. Fleenor was taken to Pikeville Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.


A native of Whitesburg, Fleenor was a surveyor employed by Summit Engineering. He leaves behind a wife and son. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m., today, at Hall Funeral Home, in Martin.


The wreck is being investigated by Kentucky State Police Trooper Austin Brashear. He was assisted on scene by Trooper Derek Sturgill, Ferrell’s Creek Fire Department and Elkhorn City Ambulance.
