With just days to go before the deadline, candidate filings have been sparse, setting up what will likely be a last-minute rush to file.

Candidates for offices on the May 20 ballot have until 4 p.m., Tuesday, to file. City and school board candidates have until Aug. 12.

House Speaker Greg Stumbo was the most notable filing in recent days. Stumbo filed Wednesday to seek a 16th term as state representative. He is thus far unopposed.

Also filing this week was a sixth candidate for the circuit judge’s seat currently held by Judge John David Caudill. Ashley Tackett Laferty, of Martin, an attorney with the Kirk Law Firm, became the latest candidate to file. She will be facing five Prestonsburg lawyers, including Earl “Mickey” McGuire, David Allen Barber, Thomas M. Smith, J. Sam Doyle and C.V. Reynolds.

The Republican race for U.S. Senate had a bit of a shakeup, as one candidate dropped off the ballot, while another one signed on.

Gurley L. Martin, of Owensboro, dropped out of the race on Tuesday. His spot on the ballot was quickly filled, however, when James Bradley Copas, of Lexington, filed on Thursday. Copas will have his hands full, as he takes on six-term incumbent Sen. Mitch McConnell, as well as well-financed Tea Party candidate Matt Bevin, of Louisville.

The complete list of those filing to run as of 2:30 p.m., Thursday, includes:
