NASHVILLE — One of Floyd County’s own has won the title of runner-up at the World’s Fastest Drummer competition held at the National Association of Music Merchants 2014 show last week in Nashville.

Braxton Burke, a native of Langley, took home second place in the 2014 “fastest hands” finals by recording 1,003 beats in 60 seconds, as measured by the sanctioning body’s “drumometer” device. His run in the preliminary round was a blistering 1,043 beats, or more than 17 beats per second.

Local Christian band Shiloh, where Burke currently performs, can now boast that they have the world’s second-fastest drummer. Shiloh also features the talents of singer Ashley Sparkman, bassist Byron Sparkman, and guitarist Alex “Bubby” White.

Burke is quick to remind others that all glory belongs with God for his talent and success. Burke says he intends to return in 2015 with his sights set on first place.
