PRESTONSBURG — A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Town Branch and U.S. 23 on Thursday afternoon sent both drivers to the hospital and stopped traffic in both directions.

Officer Bryan Hall, with the Prestonsburg Police Department, said the investigation into the accident is in the preliminary stages, and nothing is currently confirmed. But witnesses on hand agreed that the driver of a black Nissan Altima, turning left onto the southbound lanes of U.S. 23 from Town Branch, veered into the northbound lanes and collided head-on with a red Chevrolet pickup truck.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to Highlands Regional Medical Center for their injuries.

Investigation into the accident is ongoing.
