PRESTONSBURG — One young man is going to the hospital after apparently rear-ending an elderly couple on South Lake Drive in Prestonsburg on Thursday.

The accident took place in front of Cooley Medical early Thursday afternoon. Details about the accident are scarce, but one witness says that, as she was turning left, a silver Toyota Camry came to a stop behind her. She then recalls hearing a crash.

The man and woman in the Camry were not seriously injured by the wreck. The young man driving the other vehicle involved, a Chevrolet S-10, was taken away by ambulance. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.

Officers with the Prestonsburg Police and Floyd County Sheriff’s Departments worked the scene. Sgt. Darrell J. Conley helped direct traffic around the accident, while ensuring ambulances and fire trucks were able to get where they were needed.

The impact actually stuck the two vehicles together, and crews from the Prestonsburg Fire Department worked to detach them from each other using a winch and a hydraulic jack.
