June Buchanan School receives $1,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation

PIPPA PASSES – The June Buchanan School recently received a $1,500 Youth Literacy grant from the Dollar General Literacy Organization to support its literacy programs. Specifically, the grant will provide the opportunity to purchase Android tablets. The tablets will permit teachers to download reading games that will enrich student’s learning at all grade levels.


Amanda Clark, Dean of The June Buchanan School, had this to say about receiving the “On behalf of The June Buchanan School, we are blessed to receive the Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant. Since we are a private non-federally funded school, a grant such as this is crucial to our organization.“


“Youth literacy grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation are awarded at the beginning of the academic year to help make a distinct impact on the communities we serve by supporting programs that improve education and enhance literacy,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO. “At Dollar General, we are passionate about our mission of Serving Others and it’s exciting to see the real difference literacy and learning makes in people’s lives.”


Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2013, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to support initiatives that help others improve their lives through literacy and education. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $84.9 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than 4.8 million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.

The June Buchanan School is a small, private, Christian-based, K-12 college preparatory school located on the campus of Alice Lloyd College. We offer eastern Kentucky children a strong academic foundation in a small classroom setting that will prepare them for success in all areas of life. We are unique in that we require all students in grades 6-12 to complete 15 hours of community service each school year.
