PRESTONSBURG – Myra T. Elliott has been named dean of academic affairs at Big Sandy Community and Technical College (BSCTC).
Elliott, of Prestonsburg, started as a nursing instructor in 1991. She has held positions as biological science division chair, coordinator of the associate degree nursing and pathways nursing program and associate dean of allied health.
In her new position, Elliott will oversee associate deans of academic programs and learning support services, as well as distance learning, Learn on Demand, curriculum and program initiatives.
“I’m appreciative for this opportunity, and I’m excited about working alongside our faculty and staff to enhance opportunities for our students and our community,” said Elliott.
Dr. Nancy B. Johnson, provost at BSCTC, said Elliott’s focus is on student access, retention and success.
“Myra has worked on the frontlines of many initiatives that have enhanced services for our students,” she said. “She understands the unique challenges our students have and works diligently to help them overcome barriers.”
Elliott graduated from the associate degree nursing program at Prestonsburg Community College. She received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in nursing from the University of Kentucky.
“I value our institution, and I do not take lightly our responsibility in serving our students and our service area,” said Elliott. “Our faculty and staff are equipping our students with the tools to build a brighter future for generations to come.”
