MARTIN — On Thursday, Aug. 8, $1 or more from every Blizzard Treat purchased at participating DQ stores were donated to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada, which, in turn, uses the money where it’s needed the most. When a donation is given it stays in the community, helping local kids. Since 1983, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has raised more than $4.7 billion, most of it $1 at a time. These donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of their mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Local pageant queens including Miss Floyd County Holly Thompson and her sister queens, Miss Teen Floyd County Kaleigh Kendrick, Little Miss Floyd County Teddi Gullet, Wee Miss Floyd County Hailey Cook, Tiny Miss Floyd County Sierra Pinson, and Baby Miss Floyd County Leah Messer, all supported Children’s Miracle Network while purchasing blizzards at the Martin Dairy Queen. The Floyd County Pageant queens were also joined by Little Miss East Kentucky Isabella Murray and Teen Miss East Kentucky Kierstein Conn. Oreo was the most popular blizarrd flavor among these title holders.

Since 1989, Miss America titleholders have supported Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, helping with fundraising and visiting hospitalized children.

“It is very important that local title holders support great causes like Children’s Miracle Network just like Miss America 2013, Mallory Hytes Hagan, a national goodwill ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals,” said Mandy Stumbo, Miss Floyd County and Miss East Kentucky Pageant Director. “Winning a pageant goes beyond the crown in my eyes, and it’s about giving back and making a difference in your community.”
