Wyrick named head golf coach at Lindsey Wilson
by By Steve LeMaster
COLUMBIA - Eric Wyrick has been named head golf coach at Lindsey Wilson College, athletic director Willis Pooler announced on Monday.
Wyrick takes over the Blue Raider men’s and women’s golf programs after six years in the same position at Union (Ky.).
“Eric has a great understanding of what it takes to lead our nationally prominent golf programs,” Pooler said. “I’m confident that our student-athletes will have a great experience under his leadership while benefiting from his knowledge of the game.”
Wyrick led the Union men’s and women’s golf programs to a combined 15 tournament wins, including each program winning an Appalachian Athletic Conference championship. He led the Bulldog men to the program’s only NAIA National Championship appearance in 2009.
Wyrick says he is excited about the opportunity to lead two nationally-ranked programs.
“Lindsey Wilson has very competitive golf programs and my hope is to add to that tradition,” Wyrick said. “My goal is to provide a great collegiate experience for our student-athletes with hard work on the golf course and a great academic environment off the course.
“I would to thank Willis Pooler and the hiring committee as well as the administration for entrusting me to lead these programs,” Wyrick said. “I’m truly blessed to have this opportunity and I’m excited to meet my teams and look forward to working towards a successful season.”
Wyrick has produced 22 all-conference performers while at Union and 31 all-tournament team members. He was selected by his peers as the 2009 AAC Men’s Golf Coach of the Year and the 2010 AAC Women’s Golf Coach of the Year.
Prior to becoming Union coach, Wyrick earned all-conference honors all four seasons for the Bulldogs - the only Union men’s golfer to earn that distinction.
Wyrick replaces Shaun Cozart who resigned earlier this summer.
The Lindsey Wilson College men’s golf team is scheduled to open its fall season on Sunday, Sept. 1 as the Blue Raiders face Campbellsville (Ky.) in the annual President’s Cup matches at Old Bridge Golf Course in Danville.
The Blue Raider women begin their season on Sept. 9-10 at the Bill Sergent Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London.
