BEREA - Trent Milby has been named the head coach of the Berea College women’s basketball program.
He comes to Berea after spending the past seven seasons at the helm of the girls’ basketball program at Marion County High School, where he amassed a 208-36 record. This past season, Milby guided the Lady Knights to an undefeated 39-0 season and a state championship, finishing the campaign ranked fourth nationally by USA Today. Milby was named the 2013 Naismith National Women’s Coach of the Year.
Milby is also co-founder of Kentucky Premier, an AAU organization sponsored by Nike. In just three years, Milby has placed 20 players from Kentucky Premier in NCAA Division I basketball programs. He inherits a Mountaineer basketball program that finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 13-17 record and 8-7 in conference play.
“We are extremely excited to have Trent Milby lead our women’s basketball program,” said Berea College Athletic Director Mark Cartmill. “His previous coaching success and resume speaks both of his ability as a coach and of his ability to develop players. Throughout our search, we kept hearing how he [Milby] conducts himself with outstanding character. That is a quality we hold in high regard, and one we want to surround our student-athletes with.”
“I want to thank Mr. Cartmill and the search committee for this opportunity to become the next Berea College women’s basketball coach,” Milby said. “I am looking forward to working with the young ladies at Berea College and to building a championship atmosphere here at Berea.”
In his new role at the college, Milby will also handle compliance-related responsibilities for the athletic department. Milby earned his undergraduate degree in K-12 physical education from Lindsey Wilson College in 1999 and completed a master’s degree in physical education from Western Kentucky University in 2005. He resides in Campbellsville.
Berea College is currently a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and competes within the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
