RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The University of Pikeville women’s cross country team finished fifth and the men took seventh at the 43rd Annual Patty Forgey Invitational hosted by Rio Grande (Ohio) on Saturday morning.
Two Bears finished in the top 25 of the women’s 5K, including Molly Frank in 15th place with a time of 22 minutes and 54.64 seconds and Erica Newsome crossing 25th with a time of 24:59.98.
Jobeth Bingham finished one spot behind Newsome in 26th place with a time of 25:14.76, while Casey Watson crossed the finish line in 28:29.78 for 36th place overall.
Trinh Yenlinh rounded out the finishers for the Bear women in 38th place with a showing of 29:18.94.
Campbellsville won the team title with 33 points, followed by Ohio Valley with 56 and Rio Grande with 73. UPIKE finished with 124 team points. Ohio Valley’s April Kirk took the individual crown in 20:34.49.
On the men’s side, it was James Whitaker leading Pikeville in 37th place (32:43.53) on the 8K course with Cody Payne finishing next in 50th place with a time of 35:42.35.
Other UPIKE finishers included Kyle Allen in 51st place (35:54.73), John Valencourt taking 52nd (36:36.08), Brad Louder finishing 54th (38:56.86) and Taylor Damron in 56th (46:04.53).
Host Rio Grande won the men’s team title with 29 points, followed by Campbellsville in second with 43 and Ohio Valley in third with 64. Brett Pierce of Campbellsville won the individual title with a time of 26:38.45.
UPIKE will be back on the course on Oct. 11 at the Kentucky State Invitational in Frankfort.
