GEORGETOWN – The University of Pikeville women’s golf team shot a 329 to finish fourth at the Mid-South Conference Fall Tournament on Monday at the Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club.
Paced by Katy Humphrey with a 75 (37-38) to tie for third place overall, the Bears were just six strokes behind Campbellsville (Ky.) in third and seven strokes off of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in second.
Cumberlands (Ky.) led the tournament with 304 total strokes after its top player Liz Stephens carded a 73 (37-36) to take sole possession of first place. Cassidy Scantland of Campbellsville was second with a 74 (36-38) and Humphrey was tied with Taylor Gillis of Cumberlands for third.
Two other Bears found themselves in the top 25 after day one, including Christen Cropper in a tie for 16th place with an 83 (39-44) and Brittant Brophy tied for 22nd after an 84 (44-40).
Other Bears in the lineup were Ashley Veach shooting an 87 (43-44) and Lauren Gregory with a 98 (46-52). Playing as an individual, Laken McKinney posted an 82 (41-41) for UPIKE, tying her for 14th place overall.
Play was scheduled to wrap up in the tournament on Tuesday. Coverage of the final round of the conference tournament will appear in Friday’s edition.
