PRESTONSBURG - The Prestonsburg boys’ soccer team concluded the regular-season with back-to-back shutout wins earlier in the week. Prestonsburg blanked Shelby Valley 8-0 and defeated Belfry 1-0 for two wins in as many days.


More on each of the shutout wins follows.


Prestonsburg 8, Shelby Valley 0: Prestonsburg rolled past host Shelby Valley on Monday, prevailing 8-0. The Blackcats defeated Shelby Valley for their fifth win.


Corey Conley led Prestonsburg with two goals and one assist. Dustin Blair, Jacob Blair, Blake Dean, Aaron Foley, Tyler Lee and Cody Mitchell scored one goal apiece for the Blackcats.


Griffin Baker dealt out a team-high two goals for Prestonsburg, which thrived both offensively and defensively


Grant Minix, Dean, Foley and Lee each had one assist for the Blackcats.


Prestonsburg goalkeeper Grant Martin excelled, holding Shelby Valley scoreless.


Prestonsburg 1, Belfry 0: Prestonsburg remained in the win column at home on Tuesday, fending off Belfry 1-0.


Corey Conley scored the only goal of the game for Prestonsburg off an assist from teammate Aaron Foley.


Prestonsburg goalkeeper Grant Minix held an opponent scorleess for the second straight game.


With the win, Prestonsburg improved to 6-10.


Prestonsburg split a pair of games last week. The Blackcats edged host Jackson City 4-3 in the Heritage Cup on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Pikeville, however, prevented Prestonsburg from posting its second straight win on Thursday, Oct. 3. The Panthers slipped past Prestonsburg at StoneCrest Park, winning 2-1.


The current 15th Region boys’ soccer standings shape up as follows: Paintsville, 14-4-1; Johnson Central, 13-5-0; Pikeville, 11-2-1; Belfry, 8-9-1; Prestonsburg, 6-10-0; Shelby Valley, 0-12-1.
