PRESTONSBURG - One week after defeating Class 2A, District 8 challenger Betsy Layne, Prestonsburg couldn’t keep its momentum going. Visiting Hazard defeated Prestonsburg 24-14 at Josh Francis Field/Blackcat Stadium on Friday night.
Hazard notched its second straight win, improving to 4-2. Following the loss, Prestonsburg slipped to 2-4.
The Hazard defensive unit came up big, limiting the Prestonsburg offense throughout the non-district game.
Quarterback Tanner Morgan led Hazard. Tanner completed 15 of 22 passes for 142 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Christopher Hudson and Trey Higgins hauled in six catches apiece for the Bulldogs. Two of Hudson’s receptions went for touchdowns.
Cade Fletcher led Hazard on the ground, rushing 12 times for 101 yards.
Kody Arnett rushed six times for 61 yards and one touchdown as the Bulldogs pulled out the hard-fought win.
The Hazard defense intercepted a pair of passes from Prestonsburg quarterback Jarredd Jarrell, who finished 19 of 38 passing for 181 yards and one touchdown.
Jarrell also rushed 23 times for 44 yards and one score.
Dalton Frasure led Prestonsburg in receiving. Frasure hauled in three catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.
Evan Jarrell added five receptions for 57 yards. Also active in the passing game, Chatlin Jarrell collected seven catches for 38 yards.
Sean White led the Prestonsburg defense with 15 tackles. Chase Ousley registered 13 tackles while Kyle Wallace contributed 11 stops for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg will host Shelby Valley for a key Class 2A, District 8 game this Friday night. Kickoff for the Prestonsburg-Shelby Valley football game is set for 7:30 p.m.
