PIKEVILLE – Games against seven teams from last season’s NAIA Tournament field, including two ranked in the top-10 of the final national poll highlight the 2013-14 University of Pikeville Women’s Basketball schedule.
First-year head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee and her Bears play 17 home games at the East Ky. Expo Center, including matchups with Fab Four participant Cumberland (Tenn.) on Jan. 11 and Campbellsville (Ky.), which finished 10th in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll of 2012-13, on Feb. 27.
The Bears open the season with a pair of exhibition games, hosting Asbury (Ky.) on Oct. 29 before a trip to face NCAA national runner-up Louisville on Nov. 5 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.
UPIKE plays its first regular-season game on Nov. 12 at Alice Lloyd (Ky.) in Pippa Passes, Ky., while its home opener is on Nov. 14 against King (Tenn.). The MSC portion of the schedule begins on Nov. 21 at St. Catharine (Ky.).
Last season the Bears finished 11-19 overall and 6-14 in the MSC, including a 66-62 win at Georgetown.
Leading scorer Callisha Johnson (13.7 ppg) returns, as well as Brogan Conley (10.7) for their senior seasons.
