BARDSTOWN – Timmy Miller fired a 73 (37-36) to lead the University of Pikeville men’s gold team into a tie for second place overall on Monday after the first round of the St. Catharine Invitational at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
Miller, who was alone in second place individually, and the Bears were tied with Campbellsville (Ky.) after both teams shot a 315. Cumberland (Tenn.) was in first place, but had just a three-stroke lead with a 312.
Miller wasn’t alone in the top 10 for UPIKE as Samuel McGuire was tied for eighth place with a 78 (37-41), while Cody Walker was tied for 17th after carding an 81 (39-42).
Will Boyd joined them in the top-25 overall with an 83 (37-46) to finish tied for 23rd place.
Asbury (Ky.) wasn’t far behind in fourth place with 316 strokes.
The final round of the St. Catharine Invitational resumed Tuesday. Results from the final round of the St. Catharine-hosted tournament were unavailable at press time.
