BARDSTOWN – University of Pikeville’s Katy Humphrey stayed consistent with another round of 81 and nearly all of her teammates improved on day two to finish sixth as a team on Tuesday in the St. Catharine Invitational at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
UPIKE took 340 strokes in the opening round, followed by a 327 performance on day two to finish with a score of 667 for the tournament. That combined score is the lowest in the history of the Bears’ program.
Cumberlands (Ky.) won the team championship with a 615 (308-307), Madonna (Mich.) was second with a 639 (320-319) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) rounded out the top three with a 643 (331-312).
Taylor Gillis of Cumberlands won the individual title after carding a two-round 151 (79-72). Her second-round 72 was the lowest 18 holes played in the tournament.
Humphrey led UPIKE in 15th place overall with a 162 (81-81), while Ashley Veach tied for 16th place was the next best finisher with a score of 164 (84-80). Christen Cropper, who finished 37th, had the biggest improvement, jumping from a 94 to an 82 to finish with 176 total strokes.
The St. Catharine Invitational marks the end of the fall season for Pikeville which will return to play in early March of 2014.
