BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne’s opening round loss to Somerset in the Class 2A State Playoffs doesn’t stop the Bobcats from carrying momentum over into the offseason. Following the season-ending loss, Betsy Layne finished its latest gridiron campaign 9-2. The Bobcats flourished during the regular-season, winning nine games and finishing runner-up in Class 2A, District 8.


“It was a great season,” Betsy Layne Coach Jonathan Parsons commented. “The senior class will leave the school as the most successful class in the school’s history. The players will leave the program in great shape to compete for the years to come. I am proud of them and look forward to seeing them in the future.”


Senior quarterback Dylan Hamilton led Betsy Layne throughout the season. Hamilton completed 159 of 263 passes for 2,852 yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions.


As a team, Betsy Layne passed for 2,967 yards.


Betsy Layne’s most productive receiver was Peyton Case, who hauled in 48 receptions for 1,012 yards and 13 touchdowns.


Then there was receiver Dustin Rogers, who reeled in 39 receptions for 626 yards and six touchdowns. Another very capable pass-catcher, Lako Daniels, caught 24 passes for 537 yards and seven touchdowns.


Betsy Layne rushed for 1,508 yards.


Houston Hall led the Bobcats on the ground. Hall rushed 90 times for 622 yards and nine touchdowns.


Joshua Murphy added 234 rushing yards and one touchdown via 11 carries for the Bobcats.


Hall led the Betsy Layne defense with 129 tackles. Zach Bowens was another key Betsy Layne defender. Bowens finished with 113 tackles.


Rogers led Betsy Layne in interceptions with four picks.


During the 10-game regular-season, Betsy Layne notched wins over Phelps. Sheldon Clark, Allen Central, Knott County Central, South Floyd, Leslie County, Magoffin County, Shelby Valley and Jenkins.
