BETSY LAYNE - Betsy Layne senior quarterback/defensive lineman Dylan Hamilton has been named the Class 2A, District 8 Player of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.
Hamilton, who led Betsy Layne to a 9-1 regular-season record and an appearance in the Class 2A State Playoffs, thrived throughout his senior season. One of the state’s top quarterbacks, Hamilton completed 159 of 263 passes for 2,852 yards, 34 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Betsy Layne quarterback also rushed for six touchdowns.
Defensively, Hamilton registered 75 total tackles, fourth-most for the Bobcats. He also delivered one interception and a fumble recovery.
“Dylan Hamilton is the captain on our football team,” Betsy Layne Coach Jonathan Parsons commented. “After four years of playing, Dylan Hamilton will end his career as the most successful quarterback in our school’s history. He will have numerous school records, but I guarantee he would trade it all for a state championship. He always put team first. Dylan is a player that the younger kids look up to and he would never miss practice. The measuring point for following quarterbacks at Betsy Layne will have big shoes to fill. I would call him along with the rest of the seniors smalltown heroes. Dylan will be a legend at Betsy Layne!”
Hamilton’s senior season with the Betsy Layne football team included wins over Phelps (Pike County Bowl), Sheldon Clark, Allen Central, Knott County Central, South Floyd, Leslie County, Magoffin County, Shelby Valley and Jenkins as well as a Class 2A, District 8 runner-up finish.
The Hamilton-led Bobcats outscored opponents 480-113.
Hamilton will receive his Class 2A, District 8 Player of the Year award at halftime of the Class 2A State championship at Western Kentucky University on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Leslie County head coach Eddie Melton was named the Class 2A, District 8 Coach of the Year.
