LOUISVILLE - Four Floyd County high school football players, two each from Betsy Layne and Prestonsburg, have been named All-State Honorable Mention by the Courier-Journal. Betsy Layne’s Dylan Hamilton and Peyton Case and Prestonsburg’s Jarredd Jarrell and Dalton Frasure received the All-State Honorable Mention honors.
A senior signal-caller, Hamilton completed 159 of 263 passes for 2,852 yards and 34 touchdowns with nine interceptions during his senior season. Hamilton also rushed 22 times for 50 yards and six touchdowns.
Case, a junior, led Betsy Layne in receiving, reeling in 48 receptions for 1,012 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Betsy Layne finished runner-up to Prestonsburg in Class 2A, District 8. Prestonsburg dealt Betsy Layne its lone regular-season loss as the Bobcats compiled a 9-1 record before entering the postseason.
Jarrell, also a junior, completed 181 of 291 passes for 2,102 yards and 16 touchdowns with nine interceptions for the Prestonsburg Blackcats. One of the state’s most productive quarterbacks, Jarrell also rushed a team-high 212 times for 879 yards and 11 touchdowns. He ranked as Prestonsburg’s second-leading rusher.
A sophomore, Frasure led Prestonsburg in rushing. Frasure rushed 209 times for 1,240 yards and 22 touchdowns. Another go-to receiver, Frasure hauled in 48 receptions for 537 yards and four touchdowns. Frasure led Prestonsburg in receiving.
Jarrell and Frasure helped to lead Prestonsburg to another district title and a berth in a regional championship game.
