PIKEVILLE - Betsy Layne won the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Saturday, defeating Pikeville 64-51 in the championship game at T.W. Oliver Memorial Gymnasium.


Junior guard Peyton Case led Betsy Layne with a game-high 30 points. Case was named the Pikeville Invitational Tournament Most Valuable Player.


Fellow Bobcats Dylan Hamilton, Dylan Meade, Lako Daniels and Dustin Rogers joined Case on the All-Tournament Team.


Letcher County Central nipped North Laurel 69-67, Paintsville pulled away to beat June Buchanan 88-66 and Morgan County downed Phelps 62-47 in other games played in the final round of the three-day holiday tournament.


Prior to beating longtime 15th Region rival Pikeville in the championship game of the PIT, Betsy Layne defeated Morgan County (16th Region) and North Laurel (13th Region) in earlier tournament matchups.


The Bobcats rolled past Morgan County 63-35 in the opening round of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Thursday.


In other opening round games in the PIT it was North Laurel 51, Paintsville 48; Letcher County Central 78, Phelps 47 and Pikeville 55, June Buchanan 41.


Betsy Layne outlasted North Laurel 60-57 in the second round of the PIT on Friday. In other games played in the PIT on Friday it was Pikeville 65, Letcher County Central 58; Morgan County 46, Paintsville 43 and Phelps 71, June Buchanan 56.


Betsy Layne will host Pikeville for a regular-season contest on Monday (Jan. 6).
