PRESTONSBURG - Eighth-grader Jana Jarvis poured in a game-high 35 points to lead Prestonsburg past Piarist School on Monday. Host Prestonsburg pulled away to beat Piarist 72-57 in a 58th District/Floyd County Conference matchup.
Jarvis was 11 of 19 (58 percent) from the field. She hit four of five 3-point field goals and connected on her only free throw attempt.
Prestonsburg improved to 6-15 overall and 3-3 in the district/conference after posting the win.
With the loss, Piarist dropped to 4-9 overall and 2-5 in the district/conference.
Reesce Endicott joined Jarvis in double figures, scoring 17 points for the Lady Knights.
Shantel Collins, finishing one shot short of reaching double figures, contributed eight points for Prestonsburg in the win.
Prestonsburg shot 44 percent (18 of 41) from the field. The Lady Blackcats were eight of 19 (42 percent) from 3-point range.
Prestonsburg shot 52 percent (12 of 23) from the foul line.
Other players who provided scoring for Prestonsburg were Caitlin Johnson (four points), Allyson DeRossett (three points), Lauren Click (three points), Madison Rainey (one point) and Casey Ritchie (one point).
Shelby Lemaster led Piarist with a team-high 17 points. Catherine Calhoun scored 15 points and Lauren Wright netted 12 for the Lady Knights.
Jessie Hale narrowly missed double figures, scoring nine points for the Piarist girls’ basketball team.
Taylor Eckle and Kaytlyn Hall rounded out the Piarist scoring, finishing with two points apiece.
Piarist shot 58.1 percent (18 of 31) from the foul line in the setback.
