PIKEVILLE - Prestonsburg used an 18-18 run in the second quarter to carry a 10-point lead into halftime and stayed out in front after intermission to defeat Pike County Central 60-54 in the opening round of the 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Tournament at the East Kentucky Expo Center on Saturday.
Jarredd Jarell led Prestonsburg with a game-high 22 points. Dalton Frasure scored 15 points and Jarrin Hall added 10 for Prestonsburg in the win.
Narrowly missing double figures, Aaron Foley netted nine points for the Blackcats.
Prestonsburg shot 42.9 percent (15-of-35) from the field. The Blackcats were 2-of-9 from 3-point range.
Prestonsburg shot 62.2 percent (28-of-45) from the foul line.
The Blackcats, under the direction of head coach James DeRossett, led 43-33 at the end of the third quarter.
Rounding out the Prestonsburg scoring, Grant Martin and Jordan Ray chipped in two points apiece for the Blackcats.
Pike County Central also featured three scorers in double figures. Braxton Tibbs paced Pike County Central with 15 points. Tyler Burnett scored 14 points and Alex Holbrook added 11 for the Hawks.
Pike County Central shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the field. The Hawks were 4-of-9 (44.4 percent) from 3-point range.
Pike County Central only shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the foul line.
In other opening round games it was Johnson Central 62, East Ridge 45; Lawrence County 71, Betsy Layne 52 and Shelby Valley 67, Belfry 31.
