PRESTONSBURG - Defending 15th Region baseball champion Prestonsburg broke open a tie game and rolled past East Ridge in a season-opener on Friday night, winning 11-1 in six innings.
Travis Powers started on the mound and earned the win.
East Ridge started strong, scoring one run in the top half of the first inning. The Warriors, however, couldn’t manage any additional runs.
Prestonsburg answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the first inning to tie the game 1-1. The non-district game remained tied until Prestonsburg pushed across four runs in the fourth inning.
The Blackcats scored two more runs in the fifth inning and after holding East Ridge scoreless for the fifth straight stanza, manufactured four more runs in the sixth to post the 10-run win.
Aaron Foley and John Cooksey each scored two runs for the Blackcats.
Cooksey legged out a triple and leadoff batter Grant Anderson smacked a double during an offensive-heavy fourth inning.
Zack Ratliff singled and scored East Ridge’s lone run in the top half of the first inning.

Prestonsburg is scheduled to visit Pike County Central on Wednesday. First pitch for the Prestonsburg-Pike County Central baseball game is set for 6 p.m.
