EASTERN - Allen Central High School junior middle hitter Katie Kendrick has been named a Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Player to Watch. Kendrick excelled for the tradition-rich Allen Central volleyball program throughout the 2013 season.

Paintsville senior middle blocker Kerrigan Samons, Pikeville senior middle blocker Madison Tavis, senior outside hitter/setter Faith Runyon, senior libero Taunee Justice and senior outside hitter/defensive specialist Katie Justice and Johnson Central senior middle blocker/outside hitter Shelby Conley have also been named KVCA Players to Watch.

Pikeville (33-6) is favored to win the 2014 15th Region championship. The Lady Panthers are ranked first in the preseason 15th Region poll, which was released by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association late last week.

Three-time defending 15th Region champion Allen Central (33-7) is ranked second, one spot ahead of 58th District rival Betsy Layne (29-7), which is ranked third.

Longtime 57th District rivals Paintsville (24-9) and Johnson Central (18-21) are ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Allen Central shut out Pikeville 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-13) to win its third straight 15th Region championship in 2013.
