PRESTONSBURG - Prestonsburg head coach John DeRossett has announced that the Blackcats will host Pike County Central in the Joe P. Tackett Grid-Iron Classic on Sept. 19. Kickoff for the Joe P. Tackett Grid-Iron Classic is set for 7:30 p.m.


DeRossett is set to guide Prestonsburg into the 2014 season. The Blackcats have captured back-to-back Class 2A, District 8 championships and reached the 2013 Class 2A, Region 4 title game.


Prestonsburg will visit Boyd County for a preseason scrimmage on Saturday.


First-year head coach Shawn Thacker is preparing to guide Pike County Central. Thacker was previously an assistant coach on the Pikeville High School and University of Pikeville coaching staffs.


The Blackcats will visit Pikeville for a season-opener on Aug. 22.


Prestonsburg will host Sheldon Clark for a home opener on Aug. 29. The home opener has also been dubbed Flag Night.


“We’d like to invite everyone out for Flag Night,” DeRossett said. “Come out and display your American flag with pride. Let’s salute the military and our veterans.”


The Blackcats will meet host Clay County in the Appalachian Bowl on Sept. 6. Kickoff for the Appalachian Bowl is set for 5:30 p.m.


One week after facing Clay County in the bowl game and seven days before hosting Pike County Central, Prestonsburg will entertain Powell County for Homecoming on Sept. 12.


Additional non-district foes for Prestonsburg include Hazard and Lawrence County.


District foes Betsy Layne, Shelby Valley and Leslie County also remain on the Blackcats’ schedule.
